Honest IT Comparisons for Mid-Market Buyers

Each guide compares the realistic options for a buying decision — when each option wins, when each option loses, and how to pick the right one for your business. No hit pieces, no fake matrices.

How to choose the right comparison

Most IT buying decisions come down to one of four questions, and each guide below answers one of them. If you have no IT staff and rely on someone you call when things break, start with MSP vs break-fix. If you are deciding whether to hire an IT team or buy the same coverage as a service, read in-house IT vs managed services. If you already employ IT staff who are stretched thin, the co-managed vs fully managed guide is the one that fits. And if you have already decided on a managed provider and are choosing between firms, see BASG vs a typical MSP.

Three questions to answer first

  1. Do you have internal IT staff? If yes, the real choice is usually co-managed versus fully managed. If no, it is managed services versus break-fix or hiring.
  2. How much downtime and risk can you tolerate? If a lost day of email, files, or line-of-business software is an inconvenience, reactive support may be enough. If it stops revenue or patient care, you need proactive monitoring and tested recovery.
  3. Do you have compliance obligations? HIPAA, CMMC, PCI, or cyber insurance requirements mean someone has to own the controls and the evidence. That shifts the decision toward a provider who documents the work, not just fixes things.
